Environmental Working Group, or EWG
The Skin Deep database within Environmental Working Group's website is a user's guide to help you choose safe ingredients and steer clear of potential hazards including cancer causing ingredients, allergens, and other developmental and hormone disrupting ingredients. The products fall in three categories with ranking numbers: Low Hazard 0-2, Moderate Hazard, 3-6, High Hazard 7-10. We are proud to share that ALL of our 40 products are in the Low Hazard 0-2 range in the Skin Deep database. Using safe beauty products isn't just about your health, but the health of your family. What starts on your hands can end up on everything you eat and touch.
There is no safety testing required by the FDA for the industrial chemicals that go into personal care products that are used every day. Your daily grooming routine may include soap, deodorant, hair shampoo and conditioner, facial cleansers, moisturizers, lip care, sunscreen, shaving products, and possibly makeup. According to a survey by EWG, on average, people use nine products daily. These products contain over 100 unique ingredients. If each product contains a handful of unsafe ingredients, soon that handful grows and can cause a change in health.
According to EWG, "When risky chemicals are used in cosmetics, the stakes are high. Cosmetic ingredients do not remain on the surface of the skin. They are designed to penetrate, and they do."
Be safe. Be smart. Be informed.
